However, with the departure of Laine and Clint Warwick and the addition of Justin Hayward and John Lodge, who would become the band's primary songwriters, the band ventured into different territory. The band's symphonic-tinged Days Of Future Passed sophomore album was conceived as a concept album, one of rock music's first, and would retrospectively be acknowledged as one of the earliest progressive rock albums. All of the album's songs were based around different times of day, and the Hayward-penned Nights In White Satin was the closing song of the album, first simply titled The Night.
