By age 13 performed in big bands and led his own quartet. Studied with Pat LaBarbera. Recorded four albums co-leading Out Of The Blue. Did three world tours with pianist Horace Silver. Has performed and recorded with a host of artists including Orrin Evans, Jim Trompeter, Renee Rosnes, Earl Macdonald, Ralph Peterson Jr, Charles Fambrough, and Dr Anthony Branker. Bowen continues to perform and record to this day
