Cut The CakeJune 10, 1975 ~ Funk, R&B outfit the Average White Band release Cut The Cake, their third studio album ~ The followup to their immensely successful AWB album, which had brought the band international stardom with the surprise Billboard Hot 100 No.1 hit Pick Up The Pieces, the recording of Cut The Cake was plagued by artistic differences within the band with band members walking out on several occasions. Producer Arif Mardin had even considered pulling the plug, yet persevered. It paid off, the title track Cut The Cake would be the band's second and final Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hit, peaking at No.10, and would earn the band a Grammy Award nomination. Two other singles off the album, If I Ever Lose This Heaven and School Boy Crush, reached top 40 on the American pop charts, peaking respectively at No.39 and No.33
Forever Came TodayJune 10, 1975 ~ Sibling outfit the Jackson 5 release Forever Came Today, lead single off their Moving Violation album ~ A disco remake of the 1966 Billboard Hot 100 top 30, and Billboard R&B top 20 hit by Diana Ross & the Supremes, the cover by the Jackson 5 would be their last charting single on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, where it stalled at No.60, and their last top 10 hit on the Billboard R&B charts, where it reached No.6. Despite disappointing chart success, critics had welcomed the disco remake by the Jackson 5, with Record World adding that the band “(took) the opportunity to salute their initial career sparker (Diana Ross) with a smash in return”. The siblings would release one more single for Motown, the poorly-charting All I Do Is Think Of You off the same parent album, before leaving the label and continuing at Epic Records as the Jacksons
That's The Way (I Like It)June 10, 1975 ~ Disco group KC & the Sunshine Band release That's The Way (I Like It), lifted off their eponymous KC & the Sunshine Band sophomore album ~ Preceded by Get Down Tonight, this became the second of five Billboard Hot 100 No.1 hits for the band. A 1975 TIME article cited That's The Way (I Like It) as an example of sexually suggestive songs, along with Love To Love You Baby, that were all the rage. Bassist Richard Finch, who co-wrote the song with Harry Wayne Casey, later stated they were inspired by Je T'Aime (Moi Non Plus) by Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg and how the song initially included more suggestive “uh-huhs”, but they toned it down, making them cries of jubilation rather than moans of pleasure: “Back then you had to watch what you say. Not like today. People come on the radio and cuss and say all kinds of shit, but back then, you had to watch your mouth. You can be suggestive in a poetic way”

First gained attention in the early 1990s, barely out of his teens, backing Betty Carter. Burno would go on to appear on albums by the likes of Eric Reed, Greg Gisbert, Jesse Davis (As We Speak), Vincent Herring, Bob Belden, Digable Planets (Blowout Comb), Stephen Scott, Pete Yellin, Don Braden, Greg Osby (Zero), Justin Robinson, Benny Golson, Roy Haynes, Stefon Harris (A Cloud Of Red Dust), Xavier Davis, Eric Alexander, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Don Braden, John Hicks, Jason Lindner (Premonition), Duane Eubanks, Mike DiRubbo, Monday Michiru (4 Seasons), David Weiss, Peter Leitch, Roy Hargrove, Jeremy Pelt (November), Joe Chambers (Horace To Max), and Lisa Kirchner. Diagnosed with kidney disease in the mid 2000s, Burno would eventually receive a kidney transplant yet succumbed at age 43, two days after his last gig with his own quartet at the Small Jazz Club, New York ~ Burno passed away in 2013
