Even though he's something of a legendary figure on the rock underground, Albini has risen above ground level enough times to stir up a little controversy. As a Chicago-based musician, Albini led the confrontational and, some would say, unlistenable Big Black during the '80s. In the '90s, Shellac - a little more user friendly band - was his main outlet. But it's as a recording engineer that Steve Albini has really made his name. A quick look through his credits is impressive: The Pixies' Surfer Rosa (1988), The Breeders' Pod (1990), Helmet's Meantime (1992), Nirvana's In Utero (1993), PJ Harvey's Rid of Me (1993), Palace Music's Viva Last Blues (1995), Jon Spencer Blues Explosion's Acme (1998) and Low's Secret Name (1999). And that was all across just one decade. ~ ABC.net.au: Steve Albini Is Hardcore ~ September 13, 2012 © ABC.net.au
