“I'm so happy because today I found my friends - they're in my head.” ~ Kurt Cobain

Things took a turn for the worse in 1993 when Cobain overdosed on heroin. After seeking rehabilitation for a time in a center, he left without completing the program. During this time the band played on. In 1993 they released In Utero, their last studio-recorded album. Nirvana played an MTV unplugged concert and a concert in Munich in 1994. One week after the concert in Munich, Kurt Cobain was hospitalized in a coma. After waking up and leaving voluntarily, he was reported missing and was found three days later in his house, dead of a gunshot wound. As a rock legend, Cobain reached a demise similar to that of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison. The songs and albums of Cobain and Nirvana continue to influence and encourage many young musician. ~ Allmusic: Kurt Cobain ~ retrieved June 7, 2013 © Allmusic

Few bands in rock history have had a more immediate and tangible impact on their contemporary pop musical landscape than Nirvana did in the early Nineties. When the Seattle trio hit the scene in 1991, mainstream radio was awash in the hair metal of Poison and Def Leppard. But seemingly within hours of the release of Nirvana's anarchic, angry single Smells Like Teen Spirit - and its twisted anti-pep-rally video - the rules had changed. Artifice was devalued; pure, raw emotion was king. ~ Rolling Stone: Nirvana ~ retrieved January 11, 2014 © Rolling Stone

Nirvana ~ Smells Like Teen Spirit (Grohl/Novoselic/Cobain) ~ Ranked #1 NME 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time in 2014 ~ Teen Spirit encapsulated not just a generation, but a feeling that had never been captured so truly in song before - an angry malaise for the establishment, a churning eruption of nothingness at an increasingly corporate world. Which is why it remains so powerful, and why, here we are now, still celebrating it today. ~ 2014 © NME
