Joss Stone

April 11, 1987, Dover, England

British singer Joss Stone was only 16 years old when she hit the mainstream in 2003, armed with a powerful voice and a vintage, soul-based sound. Smartly aligning herself with a number of soul legends on her early records, Stone earned a devoted audience at home and abroad, first for her reinterpretations of classic soul songs (as heard on The Soul Sessions) and, on future albums, for her songwriting chops and powerful delivery. ~ Allmusic: Joss Stone ~ retrieved September 1, 2013 © Allmusic

Super Heavy

For the first time since the Rolling Stones formed nearly 50 years ago, Mick Jagger is part of a new band: Super Heavy – featuring Dave Stewart, Joss Stone, Damian Marley and Indian film composer A.R. Rahman. The band has quietly been recording together over the past 18 months, with their debut LP planned for sometime around September. “It's different from anything else I've ever been involved in,” Jagger tells Rolling Stone. “The music is very wide-ranging – from reggae to ballads to Indian songs in Urdu.” ~ Rolling Stone: Mick Jagger forms supergroup ~ May 20, 2011 © Rolling Stone
